On the number of nodal domains of random spherical harmonics
Until recently, essentially nothing was known about statistical properties of
the number of nodal domains of random functions of several (real) variables.
In 2002, Bogomolny and Schmit suggested a beautiful percolation-type
model that predicts asymptotical properties of the number of nodal domains of
Gaussian plane waves. In a joint work with Fedor Nazarov, we justify
some of their predictions.
