ABSTRACT

"Zeta functions and random matrix theory"

It has become clear that the study of the finer questions concerning the distribution of the zeros of zeta functions as well as families of zeta functions (where the symmetry of family enters decisively)are controlled by random matrix ensembles. We will discuss some of these recent developments which have led to striking conjectures concerning zeta functions as well as related developments which have led to the solution of some long standing problems.
