Olivia Eriksson, Stockholms universitet: STATISTICS IN SYSTEMS MICROSCOPY - ANALYSIS AND MODELLING OF CELL MIGRATION DATA

Metastasis is a primary cause of cancer mortality and its functionality is contingent upon cell adhesion and migration. Recent developments in the laboratory of Staffan Strömblad at Karolinska Institutet constitute new opportunities in elucidating the procedures of cell adhesion and migration. Such advancements in systems microscopy and image extraction contribute to high through-put quantification of cultivated breast cancer cells on systems and sub-systems level. Mining this type data and modeling it in a consistent way requires adequate multivariate statistical tools. The aim of this presentation is to give insight into this project from a statistical and a biological point of view. We will describe two sub-projects i) statistical analysis and visualization of static multivariate cell migration data, and ii) probabilistic modelling of dynamic sub-cellular data.
