Balanced truncation of linear time-varying systems

Balanced truncation is a well-known model reduction technique for linear time-invariant systems. In this talk we will see that many of the attractive properties of balanced truncation can be generalized and hold for linear time-varying systems. For example, a truncated input-output stable system is input-output stable, and a priori worst-case bounds on the approximation error exist. We will illustrate the method on a model of a diesel exhaust catalyst.
