Black holes, quantum
mechanics and cosmology
ABSTRACT
After
a review of the present situation of the standard model of
elementary particles and gravity, theoretical and experimental,
we
discuss the paradoxes created by the inevitability of black holes.
We
discuss the new challanges introduced by these problems and the
potential solutions and new vistas offered by string theory.
The
connection with cosmology is also explored.
As usual, a lot of
challenging mathematics is necessary.
