When solving problems with several phases or discontinuous materials with the finite element method, integrals of singular functions have to be evaluated.
In her paper "Multi-dimensional quadrature of singular and discontinuous functions" BIT 42:3 pp. 644-669, Anna-Karin formulates a special case that covers many practical applications and develops a set of quadratures of arbitrary order. These are based on a regularization of the integrand.

Anna-Karin Tornberg graduated from KTH Stockholm and is currently active at Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences, New York.
