Titel: Service Rates of Teletraffic with Intensity Variations. (Examensarbete)

Sammanfattning: For a system with non-stationary arrival processes, there is no closed form solution, except under special circumstances. This causes a need for approximate methods. The performance of three different methods on a system with a non-homogeneous sinusoidal Poisson arrival process and exponentially distributed service times with constant mean is studied, both for a loss system and a system with an additional finite queue. Two of the methods use the modified offered load (MOL) approximation and give closed form expressions, while the third yields a single differential equation for an approximately equivalent stationary traffic. Of the three methods studied, the one that seems to yield the best results is based on the MOL approximation, which is correct in the infinite-server case. The idea is to use the MOL approximation with modified service times. In the loss system they are decreased and in the queuing system increased.
