Titel: Call gapping mechanisms in network traffic management (Examensarbete)
Sammanfattning: Four mechanisms for thinning a Poisson process are compared, namely, percentage thinning, call gapping with asynchronous timer, call gapping with synchronous timer, and leaky bucket. It is investigated how this thinning changes the character of the process, in terms of expected rate, variance, and the consequences it has on a single server queueing system. For leaky bucket an approximation is devised and analysed. As a natural parallel to telecommunication, goodput is also considered, together with how well a superposition of thinned processes are approximated by a Poisson process. All mechanisms except for percentage thinning makes the expected rate bounded and the distributions tends towards a deterministic process.
